SPANGLED BUDGERIGAR BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION NEWS  -  June 2015
Reported by Ghalib Al-Nasser, Chairman

Having gone north last year the Spangled BBA held its Spangle Day, incorporating the AGM, in the Swindon area, Wiltshire this year. The Chairman, Ghalib Al-Nasser, opened the meeting by welcoming the 22 members present and thanked them for bringing their birds to the show. He made a special welcome to Bob McCabe, the judge, and Rick Watts, the speaker of the day.

Rick gave an informative talk about the spangles and how he started with them and what he likes about them. He had a number of quality photographs of Spangles of quality, both in single and double factor forms, of Paul & Nikki Stannard to show around and talked about what judges should penalise in both the single & double factor forms. He felt that spangle breeders should take more responsibility in improving the spangle markings and adhere to the Colour Standards of that variety. Rick informed the audience that exhibitors should accept the judges decisions if they put down quality birds for their poor spangle markings.

The Best in Show went to the novice exhibitor Colin Brickell for the second year running with a lovely Spangle Light Green cock winning the Best Spangle Single Factor, Best Green & Blue Series and Best Novice. The partnership of Cy Thorne & Belinda Finlayson won the Best Spangle Young Bird with a Double Factor Spangle Yellow cock while John Cosby won Best Spangle Opposite Sex with a Double Factor Yellow hen which also won Best Champion and Best Double Factor Spangle in Show with the same bird.
