William Cook first bred
the Orpington in 1886 on his farm in the village of Orpington, Kent, England.
Originally they were the Black variety and over the next eight years he introduced two
more varieties, the white and the buff, the latter now separated from the Orpington Club
under it's own breed club "The Buff Orpington Club".
There are now four varieties accepted and
shown in the UK these are the Black, the White, the Buff and a more recent addition the
Blue. Each of these varieties are regularly shown throughout the year at club and national
shows in both their full and bantam sizes. |
